The Victorian Branch of the Australian Labor Party, one of Australia’s most prominent political organisations, has successfully launched a new unified digital platform to better serve and engage with its thousands of members across the state.
Built on Microsoft’s cloud platform in partnership with Nexon Asia Pacific (Nexon), the new Membership Portal streamlines everything from renewals to member communications, centralises data, provides enterprise-grade security and lays the foundations for future digital initiatives.
“We are extremely excited with the launch of our Membership Portal to better connect with and serve our members,” says Steve Staikos, State Secretary of Victorian Labor. “We are very proud of the incredible work our team and Nexon have put into this initiative and are getting excellent feedback from our stakeholders, who are eager for the next phase of implementation.”
With a proven track record in the public sector, Nexon worked closely with Victorian Labor to understand their unique requirements and compliance needs.
Challenge: Managing geographically distributed members
A core objective of Victorian Labor was that all members receive consistent, high-quality access to information and membership services. At the same time, membership data and communications must be carefully managed across branches, committees and other constituent units.
The organisation manages various membership types, including lifetime and honorary members, tracks membership history and maintains member information in accordance with the requirements set out in its rules. With the new system, team members have centralised access to member data, reducing duplication and boosting efficiency.
“The sophisticated and specialised nature of Victorian Labor’s services needed a solution combining secure data management, streamlined member services and unified communications under one platform,” explains Gavin Leathem, Group General Manager of Business Solutions at Nexon.
Solution: Modern member experience and engagement
Nexon collaborated with Victorian Labor to design and implement a Member Portal where members can manage their own information. Members can now easily sign up, renew memberships, update their profiles, view transaction history and submit inquiries – all through a single, secure platform.
The solution includes:
Self-service member portal for all membership transactions
Automated validation of address and branch information
Secure, role-based access for branches
Streamlined payment processing and communications
Real-time insights into member engagement
Automated renewal reminders and member communications
Multi-layered security controls and monitoring
Local Branch executives have appropriate secure access to their local membership data and relevant information while maintaining centralised control. The system automatically validates and updates member information as electoral boundaries evolve, ensuring accurate branch assignments and communications.
Results: Building consistency and collaboration
By consolidating our systems and standardising our processes we’re creating a long-term foundation for how we engage and work with our members,” says Staikos. “The platform ensures we can provide consistent, high-quality services to our members with strong data privacy and security.”
Beyond streamlining administrative tasks to enable staff to invest more time directly supporting members, the new platform positions Victorian Labor to embrace emerging technologies and continue improving services.
“What stood out about Victorian Labor was their commitment to delivering an outstanding member experience while maintaining the highest security standards,” says Leathem. “Together, we’ve created a solution that protects sensitive information while enabling them to evolve how they serve their members and community.”
The project demonstrates how tailored cloud platforms can help membership organisations boost engagement and open communication channels with enterprise-grade security.
Nexon looks forward to continuing its partnership with Victorian Labor, helping them leverage emerging technologies to enhance member services and community engagement.
